2022 Chevy Impala: Specs, Price, Photos, & Release Date. 2022 Chevy Impala If thirty years ago someone had said that crossovers would be one of the biggest-selling vehicle categories, they would be hung up, tucked into the trunk of a large sedan, and discarded discreetly. Oh, how times have changed; SUVs are king, and traditional sedans are almost extinct. Nameplates like Taurus, Fusion, Chrysler 200, Sebring, Malibu, and Cruze have all seen the sharp edge of the ax.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. My counter-argument against the SUV brigade is a rebranding of America’s famous nameplate– the venerable Chevrolet Impala. Sure, that will disappear after the 2022 model year– but what if it comes back with muscular retro style and rear-wheel drive substance? Let’s explore it illustratively further.

Unfortunately, the Impala currently has all the charms of a mid-2000 Accord with some rather interesting rear fender folds, so you can’t blame the passenger for opting for a crossover over this beige four-door phone which is a faint shadow of his former self.

To counter this, my research pays homage to the 1964 4-door Impala hardtop with frameless windows and clean body lines, while also borrowing elements from the more curvy 1967 model. To carry it into the future, a road-inspired Chevrolet design language was used, with elements from the Camaro and Corvette embedded in the metalwork.

The font style is dominated by a shark-nosed, egg-like grille, muscular hood, and square fenders. Panels like diagonal black knives flow down from the hood to the doorway and employ recessed brake lines. The blackened A and C pillars exude a floating roof effect, while the side sculptures feature an aggressive rear haunch and lower door scallops for visual dynamism.

Hope

If it is approved for production and not canceled, we hope that the next 11th generation Chevrolet Impala can hit the market around the 2022-2023 model year. Until then, we hope that the current tenth generation of Impala will receive minor changes, updates, and improvements.

An overview:

What: the new Chevrolet Impala full-size sedan that will represent the 11th generation of the nameplate
When: we expect the next Impala to be launched in the 2022 calendar year as the model year 2022-2023 vehicle; however, it is also possible that the model will be postponed beyond this time period or even canceled entirely
Why: The new Impala will ensure Chevy’s leading position in the full-size mainstream sedan space while providing economies of scale with the third-generation Buick LaCrosse
Places: sold in all current markets where Impala is currently sold, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and the Middle East

Here are our expectations about the future of the Chevrolet Impala:

  • Based on the new GM E2 platform, it provides a completely new foundation and technique
Significantly lighter than the tenth generation model, at as much as 300 pounds (136 kilograms).
  • New exterior and interior design.
  • Improved packaging, resulting in increased usable interior space.
  • The inclusion of the next-generation MyLink infotainment system.
  • An increasing number of convenience, comfort, and luxury.
  • The potential addition of all-wheel-drive as an option.

2022 Chevy Impala Powertrain

General Motors is not short of one or two powerful powertrains, and the study acknowledges the Impala V8’s past and electrified future. Let’s start with the basics; The proven 3.6-liter V6 engine with 320 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque will be afoot in the door to the range, followed by the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine plucked from the Corvette C8.

Using the latter unit can offer up to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Power will be channeled to the rear wheels via a Tremec 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

GM CEO Mary Barra has painted an all-electric future for the brand, and using electrification for the Impala could save the big sedan too. High performance, dual-motor setup, 100kWh battery pack, and a Tesla Model S rivaling a range of 380 miles or more (over 610 km) could be just the ticket for a market rejuvenation.

We hope that the next Chevy Impala features the following engine options:

  • 3.6 L V-6 LGX engine.
  • Possible Twin-Turbo 3.0 L V-6 LGW for a potential high-performance variant.
  • We hope that the next Impala will only be offered with the new GM 9-speed automatic transmission.

2022 Chevy Impala Interior

Offering a spacious interior, roomy trunk, smooth acceleration, and luxurious ride quality without being too soft and floating, this generation of Impala– introduced in 2014– has always been a solid choice in its segment. The Impala does exactly what you ‘d expect from a large, comfort-oriented sedan, in short.

What gives it a tendency to roam its lanes on the highway, what it dislikes is the heavy handling of the Impala and its overly sensitive steering. We weren’t captivated by thick front roof pillars that obscure your view around curves either. The 2022 Impala’s execution hold remains a solid choice, but competitors like the Kia Cadenza and the Toyota Avalon are overall fancier, overall.

So, if you’re considering the Chevy Impala over the smaller Malibu, chances are you want a comfortable cruiser that feels a little special. Choose and skip the basic lt Premier, which includes advanced safety features, headlights, and upgraded skins, for that purpose. It’s worth getting the Premier Comfort package, which costs a little and adds a number of the desired luxury features, in our opinion.

2022 Chevy Impala Price and Release Date

We expect that the starting price of the next Impala will grow from the $ 27,000 of the current tenth generation model to $ 30,000 or higher. And we do not yet know the official release schedule from Chevrolet due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
